Future heart break, future headaches
Wide eyed nights late lying awake
With future cold shakes from stupid mistakes
Future me hates me for, hates me for…
Singer and guitar player with The Beths, Elizabeth Stokes also writes their songs. Future Me Hates Me is about the hassle of falling in love. We can connect with the idea that what we do now might become a source of regret.
Collecting a chronic disease, whether lifestyle-related or not, appears to be associated with higher risk of later dementia. Following up the over 10,000 people in the United Kingdom Whitehall study, Céline Ben Hassen and colleagues found that more than two of such ‘morbidities’ seemed to be the critical cut-off. And that getting into the ‘multi-morbidity’ zone earlier, as in from 55 to 65 years really pushed the dementia risk up.
Like me, you’re possibly wondering, do I have more than one? The 13 they measured:
1. coronary heart disease, stroke and heart failure
2. diabetes
3. hypertension (systolic blood pressure ≥140 mm Hg, diastolic blood pressure ≥90 mm Hg, or use of antihypertensive drugs)
4. cancer
5. chronic kidney disease
6. chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
7. liver disease
8. depression
9. mental disorders other than depression
10. schizophrenia and other non-mood psychotic disorders
11. anxiety disorders
12. Parkinson’s disease
13. arthritis/rheumatoid arthritis
I was doing well, until I got to #13! But one isn’t such a risk. I can’t hate myself all that much!
